In the morning there is a short walking tour around downtown passing the Opera House, City Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral & The Central Post Office. After that you visit the former Presidential Palace (Reunification Palace), the War Remnants Museum, China Town with a short walk around Cho Lon, the biggest wholesale market in Vietnam. Then visit Thien Hau Temple, which is the oldest Chinese temple dedicated to the Sea Goddess. Pho (traditional Vietnamese noodle soup) & spring rolls will be for lunch. The afternoon is at leisure. In the evening there will be a dinner cruise on the Saigon River.

Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnels - Cao Dao Temple
A full day tour to visit Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai religion in Tay Ninh. Leave Saigon in the early morning to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, 65km northwest of Saigon. The Cu Chi tunnels are an amazing complex of underground tunnels used during the Vietnam War. Continue to Tay Ninh church, which is the centre of the unusual Cao Dai religion, which combines Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism and Confucianism. See this spectacular church with worshippers attending the noon service in their colourful tunics. Lunch is at a good restaurant in Tay Ninh. Return to Saigon in the late afternoon.

Saigon - My Tho (Mekong Delta)
Morning departure from the hotel for a coach trip to My Tho which is a two hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City. My Tho is a prosperous town of 200,000 inhabitants in the Mekong Delta. It is famous for its extensive orchards and immense rice fields. Enjoy a 4-5 hour boat ride on the Mekong River as well as a horse ride on a cart (traditional transportation). Visit an orchard on an island, a coconut candy workshop and a bee farm with lunch included at a farmers house. Return to Saigon in the late afternoon.

Saigon - Dalat
Depart Saigon for Dalat, a cool mountain resort built by the French in the 1920's as a hill station. It's lakes, waterfall, evergreen forest and gardens makes Dalat one of the most enjoyable places in Vietnam. We have a beautiful drive through rubber, coffee & tea plantations, which includes a stopover at La Nga floating village. Lunch is at Lien Do restaurant in Bao Loc. Arrive Dalat and  check  in at the hotel. Dinner is at a local restaurant.

Dalat
This morning there is a short drive to the Dalat cable car station for a 15 minute ride overlooking beautiful pine forests, flower and vegetable gardens. Then visit the Crazy House, followed by Bao Dai's summer villa and a famous embroidery workshop in Vietnam. Enjoy a 20 minute train ride through vegetable gardens to Trai Mat, then visit Linh Phuoc Pagoda, famous for being made out of beer bottles and ceramics. Lunch is at a local restaurant. In the afternoon there is a visit to the Valley of Love. Afterwards visit Lat Village (12 kms from town) to see the K'hor people, who are the local ethnic minority and the original people to the area. Enjoy a 1 hour interesting dance and gong show, before having dinner at a local restaurant.

Dalat - Nha Trang
Depart Dalat on a nice four hour drive to Nha Trang, a very popular beach resort to both Vietnamese and foreign tourists. Lunch will be at a local restaurant upon arrival in Nha Trang. After lunch there is a visit to a very interesting Champa temple, Po Nagar, which is called the mother Goddess of Champa and was built in the 10th Century. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Enjoy a morning boat trip to visit Tri Nguyen Aquarium and Mieu Island. Then visit Mun Island where there is an opportunity to enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the South China Sea. Lunch will be at a local barbeque seafood restaurant. You will have free time in the afternoon for more swimming & wandering the town.

Nha Trang - Danang - Hoi An
Transfer to the airport for your early morning flight to Danang. Upon arrival into Danang, stop at China Beach, where the Americans came for rest & relaxation during the Vietnam war. Also stop in the area of the five marble mountains. Afterwards there is a 40 minute drive to Hoi An and then a short walking tour to orient yourself with the town. Lunch is at the excellent 'Ly Cafe'. The historical town Hoi An was a prosperous seaport city during the 16th to 18th centuries. Its community of foreign merchants resulted in a unique architectural style with Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese & French influences. It is a very laid back town and a good place for shopping, especially tailoring. Hoi An has become known as the tailor capital of Vietnam with hundreds of tailor, art and souvenir shops near the hotel and in town. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Hoi An - Hue
Depart Hoi An for Hue, the homeland of Nguyen dynasty, the last dynasty of Vietnam which ruled the country from 1802 to 1945. We travel across the Hai Van Pass (Pass of the Oceans Clouds), passing through many pretty red-tiled villages with fruit orchards and enjoying spectacular views of sky and sea. Arrive in Hue, with lunch at cafe "Mandarin". In the late afternoon there is a one hour cyclo ride around the citadel & the city. Dinner is at a local restaurant 'Imperial Park'.

Hue
This morning there is a visit to the Citadel which was built from 1804 - 1833. Then to Thien Mu Pagoda, which is famous in Hue and the rest of Vietnam. Afterwards there is a boat trip back to the hotel on the Perfume River.
In the mid afternoon there is a visit to the tomb of Tu Duc, the 4th emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty which ruled the country from 1848 to 1883 and the tomb of Khai Dinh, the 12th emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty which ruled the country from 1916 to 1925, a beautiful mosaic building. Tonight there is a special imperial dinner at a local restaurant.

Hue - Hanoi
This morning you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival in Hanoi you are transferred to the hotel. Lunch is at a local restaurant. In the afternoon there is a visit to the Museum of Ethnology and a one hour cyclo ride around the Old & the French Quarter of Hanoi. Dinner is at a local restaurant.

Enjoy a full day city tour of Hanoi with visits to Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum, museum and residence. Also visit One Pillar Pagoda. Lunch is at KOTO, whose owner employs and trains disadvantaged Vietnamese in the hospitality industry. After lunch visit the Temple of Literature, which was built in the 11th Century and is known as Vietnam's first university. In the evening enjoy a water puppet show, the unique art of the Vietnamese since the 11th Century. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.

Hanoi - Halong Bay
This morning we depart Hanoi on a four hour drive to Halong Bay. Halong Bay is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and listed as a World Heritage Site. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is known in Vietnamese as 'Dragon descending into the Sea'. Picturesque Halong Bay has more than 1,969 limestone islets rising from the clear emerald water. Many of them contain beautiful grottoes. Upon arrival in Halong Bay, we board the Bai Tho Junk, with lunch on board. In the afternoon there is a fantastic cruise on Halong Bay with a visit to Sung Sot Cave and a swim at Titov Beach. Enjoy dinner on board while watching the sunset, depending on the weather.

Halong Bay - Hanoi
We have a few more hours on the junk, before heading back to Hanoi. In this time we will have a morning cruise to visit Man's Head Island, Tortoise Island, visit Luon Cave by a small bamboo boat, Bai Tu Long Bay, Toad Island, and Bai Tho Mountain. We have an early lunch on board before disembarking. We then make our way back to Hanoi, with a stop a ceramic village on the way. Dinner is at a local restaurant. After dinner transfer to the train station to board the Livitrans Train to Sapa at 8.35pm. This first class sleeper carriage has 2 or 4 seats to a compartment, which convert into 2 or 4 sleeping bunks for the overnight portion of the journey. The bunks are provided with sheets, pillow and a blanket, though some people prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet. Please note that this train is considered first class by Vietnam standards but is not first class by Australian standards. It is however one of the best trains available on this route. For this tour there will be two persons to each cabin.
Note: Passengers paying the single supplement will be required to share with another person on the train.

Lao Cai - Bac Ha Sunday Market - Sapa
Arrive at Lao Cai station at 5am and have a buffet breakfast at a local restaurant before heading off to Bac Ha Market, a regular market held every Sunday for ethnic minorities. You'll see the gathering of thousands of people of H'Mong, Dao and Tay ethnic minorities wearing their colourful, traditional costumes. It is a riot of colour and fun. There is time to explore the colourful market and meet the local tribal people to appreciate their culture & tradition. There is a visit to a palace built in the 1920's for the so called 'King Hmong'. Afterwards we return to Lao Cai where we have lunch. Whilst in Lao Cai there is an opportunity to take photos at the border gate between Vietnam & China. We then have a one hour drive to Sapa. Sapa is a hill station built in 1922. The whole area is spectacular, as Sapa lies in a valley surrounded by paddy fields in a variety of shades of green, but is overlooked by Vietnam's highest mountain, Mount Fansipan. You will see the local minority groups, the H'mong and the Dzao people, the largest and the most colourful ethnic groups in the region. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.

Sapa
After breakfast, take a 4 kilometre drive to the rim of a deep valley. Along the road you'll see H'Mong, Dzay and Dzao minority people dressed in their traditional costumes. There is a two hour walk at a gentle pace around Ta Van and Lao Chai, home to all three minorities. Observe their daily lives for a rare glimpse into their culture and costumes. Lunch is at a local restaurant while enjoying a traditional music show by ethnic minorities of the area. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Transfer to Hanoi Airport. Depart Hanoi at 3.25pm on VN837, arriving in Siem Reap at 5.05pm. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner is at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning there is a visit to the famous Angkor Wat temples and Bayon temples. Angkor Wat is a temple complex built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. Angkor Wat is the most significant and best preserved temple in the area. It is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation, first Hindu and then Buddhist. Lunch is at a restaurant in the city. About 1pm you are transferred to the FCC Hotel, which is the central meeting point for your transfer to Phnom Krom pier. Upon arrival at the pier, transfer by local boat to the Toum Tiou. This afternoon there are check-in procedures, a security briefing and an introduction of the crew. Welcome drink and dinner on board.
Built in a traditional style, the Toum Tiou was christened in 2002 on the river at Phnom Penh. It was the first Cambodian cruise boat with international standard accommodation. Fully panelled in wood, with charm and comfort in mind, the ship was designed in keeping with the local style. The Toum Tiou is modestly sized, being 38 metres long and 7 metres wide in the middle. It has the safety of a steel hull and its low draft makes it possible to access the smallest and remotest of villages. With the tasteful decoration of a bygone era, the Toum Tiou has 10 cosy cabins with private shower, a large lounge area, a panoramic viewing space to the front, a half-covered bar/restaurant to the rear and a roof patio. Air conditioning, hi-fi system and library are also provided. The captain, ship hands, hostesses, cooks and purser are discreet and inconspicuous in the performance of their duties. The cabins are 3.3 metres by 2.5 metres in size. Each cabin has air conditioning, as well as a toilet, shower and sink.

Breakfast on board during cruising. Morning visit to Kampong Tralach, including a visit to the local pagoda. Lunch on board during cruising to Phnom Penh. On arrival in Phnom Penh in the afternoon, passengers are free to explore the city at their leisure. A traditional dance performance will be shown on board, before dinner at a local restaurant. Breakfast on board. Explore Vinh Long by local boat, visiting local factories and traditional farm houses. Visit Cai Be floating market - a highlight of the Mekong Delta, before reboarding the Toum Tiou for lunch. Arrive at My Tho in the early afternoon and explore the area on local boats. This evening enjoy farewell cocktails with the Master of Ship and Cruise Manager, before the Captain's farewell dinner on board.

Saigon - Singapore
This morning enjoy breakfast on board during your cruise to Saigon. Disembark at 11.00am. You are met and transferred to the Huong Sen Hotel for day use of a room until 5pm. The remainder of the day is at leisure to do some last minute shopping or relax in your room and freshen up before your flight home.
About 5pm you are transferred to Saigon airport, departing at 7.45pm on SQ 185, arriving in Singapore at 10.40pm.

Conditions for Macleay Valley Travel's Vietnam Discovery Tour  

Deposits and Payments - A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 per person is payable within 7 days of booking for the basic tour. If you are doing the Mekong River Cruise extension, an additional deposit of $600 per person is required. These deposits are not refundable should you later cancel. The balance is payable in full 10 weeks prior to departure.
Refunds and Cancellations - Cancellations after final payment will result in a refund limited to whatever we can recoup from the airline.
Insurance - Adequate travel insurance is essential. We can arrange this for you if desired. Macleay Valley Travel offers Suresave Travel Insurance.  Please note that we can only process  your travel insurance when we have received full payment for the insurance and the signed Suresave Travel Insurance application form, located on the last page of the Suresave Travel Insurance information booklet. Until this time the travel insurance cannot be processed and will not be valid. Macleay Valley Travel will bare no responsibility for any consequences that may occur as a result of an incomplete insurance application.    
Passports - All travellers require a current passport with at least 6 months left on it at the end of the tour. Non-Australian passport holders require a re-entry visa for Australia. Visas are required for all passport holders to Vietnam. A single entry visa fee for an Australian passport holder is $72.00 and we charge $30.00 for processing. If you are doing the Cambodian extension, the Cambodian visa fee is $45.00 and we charge $30 for processing. If you are doing the Cambodian extension, you will require a multiple entry Vietnam visa, which costs $150. Please note: Visa fees are subject to any increases imposed by the Vietnamese and Cambodian Consulates. Passengers doing the extension will require a double-entry Vietnam Visa. 
Basic Tour Price and Taxes - Air taxes and Fuel Levies are included in the basic tour price if the tour is paid in full on or before the due date on the final invoice. Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to charge for any increase in Air taxes and Fuel Levies if the tour is not paid in full by the due date.
Not  Included in the Cost - Travel insurance, visas and all items of a personal nature such as telephone calls, drinks, excess baggage, tips, meals (except those specified in the itinerary), etc. are not included in the cost. Similarly, credit card payments can only be accepted if 2% is added to the price to help defray the heavy merchant fees charged to us by the credit card companies.
Breakaway Fee - All fully inclusive prices are based on group travel and any deviation from the set itinerary will incur a breakaway fee. The breakaway fee for most deviations including a post-tour extension on this tour is $55 per person. Please inquire with our office for prices on any pre-tour extensions. 
Booking through other Agents - As we keep the cost of our tours as low as possible, there is insufficient margin for us to be able to pay commission to other travel agents, so some bookings can only be accepted if the client pays the other agent's commission. 
Macleay Valley Travel is a fully licensed travel agent and as such any monies paid to us are fully insured by the Travel Compensation Fund. We are happy for any prospective traveller with us to check us out with your local Consumer Affairs (fair trading) department.
Health and Fitness -Macleay Valley Travel recommends that the passenger is reasonably healthy and/or fit to participate in this tour.  Persons with a disability requiring special assistance must be accompanied by a companion. Macleay Valley Travel and their representatives cannot provide this service.  Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to accept/decline or terminate a passenger's participation in the tour under certain circumstances.
Limitation of Liability - As Macleay Valley Travel acts only as agent for the Airlines, Hotels, Coach Companies etc., providing accommodation, transportation and other services, Macleay Valley Travel shall not be liable or responsible for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property including baggage arising out of or connection with any transportation, accommodation or other services, or resulting directly or indirectly from acts of God, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Government or other authorities, de jure or defacto wars, whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics, quarantines, medical or customs regulations, delays or cancellations caused by changes in schedules or itinerary, or over bookings or defaults or for any causes beyond Macleay Valley Travel's control or any loss or damage resulting from improper or insufficient passports, visas or other documents and neither Macleay Valley Travel, and its servants or employees shall be or become liable or responsible for any additional expenses or liability sustained or incurred by the tour member as a result of the foregoing causes.
Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to modify the itinerary or the accommodation if circumstances make this necessary, provided that the amended itinerary is of equal value or greater value than that of the original program.
