  • Air fares with Thai International from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane into Copenhagen return, plus a return flight from Copenhagen to Reykjavik with Iceland Air. 
  • A nine day Iceland tour including a whale-watching cruise, the world famous Blue Lagoon Spa and a boat tour of the Jokulsarlon Glacier. 
  • A 3 day Copenhagen stopover with day tours. 
  • A 3 day Thailand stopover with tours at a resort hotel on the Gulf of Siam. 
  • Good accommodation, mainly 3 to 3.5 star. 
  • Many meals. 
  • All entrance fees and transfers. 
  • Services of Icelandic, Danish and Thai tour guides and if there are 12 or more passengers there will be an Australian tour leader.

If you do not have a travel partner, but wish to travel at twin-share rates, we will try to match you up with someone else in the same position, but this is not guaranteed. For a single room there is an extra charge of $955.

Itinerary for Iceland Tour - August 2012

Included meals are indicated as B = Breakfast, L =Lunch, D = Dinner

20.08.12 Depart Brisbane at 2.00pm on TG 474, arriving in Bangkok at 8.20pm.
Depart Melbourne at 1.55pm on TG 466, arriving in Bangkok at 8.25pm.
Depart Sydney at 3.25pm on TG 472, arriving in Bangkok at 9.45pm.

21.08.12 All passengers depart Bangkok at 1.20am on TG 950, arriving in Copenhagen at 7.40am. You will be met at the airport by your Danish tour guide and taken on an orientation tour of Copenhagen, with views of the Amalienborg Palace and the statue of the Little Mermaid, the famous symbol of Copenhagen. You will visit Copenhagen's city hall. The Town Hall complex of Copenhagen was built during 1892 - 1905. The 107 metre high tower is equipped with a carillon that chimes its familiar tune all over the capital every day. Anyone is welcome to visit the Town Hall and admire Jens Olsen's astronomical clock, or climb the highest tower in the city with an outstanding view over Copenhagen. The City Town Hall is a very attractive and popular building, not only for outside visitors but also for the local Copenhageners. The entire complex is designed by Martin Nyrop, who based his project on the Italian Renaissance style and on medieval Danish architecture. Above the main entrance is a copper figure of Bishop Absalon, who was the founder of Copenhagen in 1167.
You will have free time in Copenhagen city to have lunch and you will then be transferred to the First Vesterbro Hotel for a two night stay.

Today there will be a Hamlet Castle & countryside tour. This tour is a great way to see the castles and countryside outside of Copenhagen. Leave Copenhagen and travel up the Riviera Road to Hillerad. As you travel along you will have a beautiful view across the Oresynd Strait with the Swedish coast beyond. On this tour there will be a view point of Fredensborg Palace, the spring & autumn residence of the Danish royal family. We will have an inside visit to Kronburg Castle, made famous as the setting of Shakespeares famous play 'Hamlet'. Kronburg is a renaissance castle & military fortress, reconstructed after a major fire in 1629. We also have an inside visit to Frederiksborg Castle, which is beautifully situated beside Castle Lake with romantic landscaped gardens. It is the largest renaissance castle in Scandinavia and was built in the first decades of the 17th century and incorporates the finest renaissance architecture & craftmanship. The castle also incorporates the Museum of National History, which illustrates 500 years of Danish history.

Late morning transfer back to Copenhagen airport, departing at 2.00pm on Iceland Air FI 205, arriving in Iceland's capital Reykjavik at 3.10pm. We will be met at the airport by our Icelandic tour guide and transferred to the hotel. On the way to our hotel we will stop at the Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa. This spa is regularly voted by readers of 'Conde Nast Traveller' as the best medical spa worldwide.

The first leg of the journey takes you to one of the most well known areas, the Golden Circle. The day starts at Thingvellir National Park where you will go snorkelling in Silfra fissure. This is an experience you will never forget. The drive includes stops at some of the best known natural phenomena in Iceland including Pingvellir National Park, the Great Geysir Area and Gullfoss. Tonight there is an overnight stay in Fluoir area.

We start the day by seeing two beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. After visiting the Skogar Museum we drive to Vikm the volcanic beach south of the village. From there you can view the rock formations Dyrholaey and Reynisdrangar. We then head on to the Skaftafell area for an overnight stay.

We spend the morning exploring Skaftafell area with its many optional hiking routes. On we go to the breathtaking glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon. Stay overnight in the Djupivogur area on Iceland's southeast corner, right by Vatnajkull, Europe's largest glacier by far.

We drive through spectacular fjord scenery and visit charming fishing villages as we head to the capital of east Iceland, Egilsstaoir. Among noteable sites along the way is the majestic Mt Bulandstindue and the village Stoovafjorour. Once you have traversed the eastern fjords and moorlands, prepare yourself to be amazed by the unique natural beauty of Lake Myvatn and surroundings. You will take in the lunar landscapes of Namaskaro Pass and Skutustaaagigar pseudo craters. Overnight in the area. Please note that today is a long day.

The Canyon Asbyrgi and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, are  located in the wondrous and varied Jokulsargljufur National Park north of Lake Myvatn. Today we visit these unique sites as we head to the beautiful coastal village Husavik, best known for its excellent whale watching tours. We set sail on a traditional Icelandic oak boat. This tour is a unique opportunity to enjoy magnificent wildlife and witness whales & birds in their natural habitat. This evening we have an overnight stay in the area.

We leave the beautiful area of Myvatn and stop by the waterfall Gooafoss on our way to Akureyri, the capital of the north. We take a stroll in the town centre which is always full of life during summer. After Akureyri we head to the north west part of Iceland for an overnight stay.

After visiting Deildarttung, the most voluminous hot spring in Europe, the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and the historic site Reykholt, we finish our circle round Iceland by returning to Reykjavik.
31.08.12 Today we leave the beautiful and peaceful island of Iceland. We have an early departure to Reykjavik airport, departing at 8.30am on FI 206, arriving in Copenhagen at 1.25pm.
Depart Copenhagen at 2.25pm on TG 951, arriving in Bangkok 6.00am the next morning (01.09.12).
01.09.12 Upon arrival in Bangkok you will be met by your Thai tour guide and transferred to the Cha'am Methavalai Hotel, which is an ocean front resort hotel on the Gulf of Siam for a 3 night stay.

Today there will be an evening tour of Hua Hin by night. We leave the hotel mid afternoon and travel to inspect the interesting teakwood palace of King Rama VI. We then travel to Hua Hin for a short stop at their central shopping area. After this there will be time for shopping at Hua Hin's night market. Next we travel by foot pedalled tri-shaws (the tri-shaw operators do the pedalling) to a harbour-side restaurant for a lovely seafood and chicken dinner.

Today we have a full day tour to Petch Dam and Lake. We start off with a morning scenic drive to Petch Dam, with the first stop being at a meditation centre with a huge lady of Buddha statue. Then we board a long tail boat for a two and a half hour boat tour on the lake created by the dam, viewing beautiful national park country with small scattered Karen hill-tribe settlements. We stop on a small island and inspect its interesting temple. We then do a short walking circumvention of the island to see its interesting statues. We next have an included lunch at a lovely restaurant overlooking the lake, before returning to Cha'am.

Late morning departure from the hotel for Bangkok airport. En route we will stop in Petchburi and inspect a fascinating temple situated in a large natural cave. After this we inspect the mountain top summer palace of King Rama IV of 'The King and I' fame. After this we travel through to Bangkok.
Brisbane and Melbourne passengers will be dropped off at Siam Square, Bangkok's leading shopping and entertainment area.
Sydney passengers will go directly to Bangkok airport, departing at 7.20pm on TG 475, arriving in Sydney at 7.20am the next morning (05.09.12).
At 8.00pm Brisbane & Melbourne passengers will be transferred to Bangkok airport.
Brisbane passengers depart Bangkok at 11.59pm on TG 475, arriving in Brisbane at 11.50am the next morning (05.09.12).

Conditions for Macleay Valley Travel's Iceland Tour with Copenhagen Stopover

Deposits and Payments - A non-refundable deposit of $600.00 per person is payable within 7 days of booking. This deposit is not refundable should you later cancel. The balance is payable in full 10 weeks prior to departure. 

Refunds and Cancellations - Cancellations after final payment will result in a refund limited to whatever we can recoup from the airline.

Insurance - Adequate travel insurance is essential. We can arrange this for you if desired. Macleay Valley Travel offers Suresave Travel Insurance.  Please note that we can only process  your travel insurance when we have received full payment for the insurance and the signed Suresave Travel Insurance application form, located on the last page of the Suresave Travel Insurance information booklet. Until this time the travel insurance cannot be processed and will not be valid. Macleay Valley Travel will bare no responsibility for any consequences that may occur as a result of an incomplete insurance application.    

Passports - All travellers require a current passport with at least 6 months left on it at the end of the tour. Non-Australian passport holders require a re-entry visa for Australia. No visas are required for this tour if you are travelling on an Australian passport.

Basic Tour Price and Taxes - Air taxes and Fuel Levies are included in the basic tour price if the tour is paid in full on or before the due date on the final invoice. Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to charge for any increase in Air taxes and Fuel Levies if the tour is not paid in full by the due date.

Breakaway Fee - All fully inclusive prices are based on group travel and any deviation from the set  itinerary will incur a breakaway fee. The breakaway fee for most deviations including a post-tour extension on this tour is $55 per person. Please inquire with our office for prices on any pre-tour extensions. 

Not  Included in the Cost - Travel insurance, visas and all items of a personal nature such as telephone calls, drinks, excess baggage, tips, meals (except those specified in the itinerary), etc. are not included in the cost.
Similarly, credit card payments can only be accepted if 2% is added to the price to help defray the heavy merchant fees charged to us by the credit card companies.

Booking through other Agents - As we keep the cost of our tours as low as possible, there is insufficient margin for us to be able to pay commission to other travel agents, so some bookings can only be accepted if the client pays the other agent's commission. 
Macleay Valley Travel is a fully licensed travel agent and as such any monies paid to us are fully insured by the Travel Compensation Fund. We are happy for any prospective traveller with us to check us out with your local Consumer Affairs (fair trading) department.

Health and FitnessMacleay Valley Travel recommends that the passenger is reasonably healthy and/or fit to participate in this tour.  Persons with a disability requiring special assistance must be accompanied by a companion. Macleay Valley Travel and their representatives cannot provide this service.  Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to accept/decline or terminate a passenger's participation in the tour under certain circumstances.

Limitation of Liability - As Macleay Valley Travel acts only as agent for the Airlines, Hotels, Coach Companies etc., providing accommodation, transportation and other services, Macleay Valley Travel shall not be liable or responsible for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property including baggage arising out of or connection with any transportation, accommodation or other services, or resulting directly or indirectly from acts of God, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Government or other authorities, de jure or defacto wars, whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics, quarantines, medical or customs regulations, delays or cancellations caused by changes in schedules or itinerary, or over bookings or defaults or for any causes beyond Macleay Valley Travel's control or any loss or damage resulting from improper or insufficient passports, visas or other documents and neither Macleay Valley Travel, and its servants or employees shall be or become liable or responsible for any additional expenses or liability sustained or incurred by the tour member as a result of the foregoing causes.
Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to modify the itinerary or the accommodation if circumstances make this necessary, provided that the amended itinerary is of equal value or greater value than that of the original program.
