Bangkok - Cha'am
Mid morning departure for our 3 hour trip to Cha'am on the Gulf of Siam, staying at the beach front Cha'am Methavalai Hotel. In the evening we will visit Hau Hin, seeing their historical railway station, their interesting night market and having a seafood and chicken dinner at a lovely over the water restaurant.

Cha'am 
Tour to Petch Dam and Lake. Morning  scenic drive to Petch Dam. First stop is at a meditation centre with a huge lady Buddha statue. Then we board a long tail boat for a two and a half hour boat tour on the lake created by the dam, viewing beautiful national park country with small scattered  Karen hill-tribe settlements. We stop on a small island and inspect its interesting temple. We then do a short walking circumvention of the island to see its interesting statues. We next have lunch at a lovely restaurant overlooking the lake, before returning to Cha'am.

Bangkok - Munich
Early departure. En route to Bangkok Airport we tour the Petchaburi Area. We see the mountain top palace of King Rama IV (of "The King and I" fame). This is a fascinating place set in a garden of frangipanis. Transfer to Bangkok Airport for your flight to Munich.
Depart Bangkok at 2.05pm, arriving in Munich at 8.00pm.  Transfer to your Munich hotel.

Munich - Salzburg
A leisurely start as we cross into Austria to spend lunchtime at Lake Mondsee and visit the church made famous in the wedding scene of the film 'Sound of Music'. Later we drive deep into the Lake District and visit Hallstatt. Set on a rocky terrace jutting into the quiet dark water of the lake, surrounded by towering peaks, this is considered the oldest inhabited village in Europe and perhaps the most beautiful in Austria. Afterwards, passing Wolfgangsee (lake), we reach Salzburg - Mozart's baroque city with its ornate squares, statues and churches. We will stay three nights in this wonderful city. To make the most of your stay our hotel is superbly located in the heart of town within easy walking distance of all the major sights.

This morning we are joined by a local guide for a walking tour of this enchanting baroque city, including several locations used in the film 'Sound of Music'. Your afternoon will be at leisure to explore the myriad of narrow, cobbled stone streets, the fascinating shops and traditional coffee houses. The view from the enormous Festung (Fortress), sitting high above the city are magnificent.

Salzburg
A fascinating day ahead as we visit Berchtesgaden. A local guide joins us as we take a breathtaking bus journey up the winding Kehlstein road and then, in Hitler's personal luxurious brass elevator, we ascend inside the mountain for a guided tour of the Kehlsteinhaus. This Alpine retreat is better known as Hitler's Eagles Nest and the mountain views spectacular. We also visit the Dokumentation centre of Obersalzberg (Hitler's former Nazi Southern headquarters) and descend into the elaborate system of bunkers connecting with the Berghof. As a finale we enjoy an afternoon stop in the charming village beside perhaps the most beautiful lake of all - Konigsee- famous the world over for its steep cliffs and fjord like lake.

Salzburg - Lake Bled in Slovenia
Before crossing the Slovenian border we stop at the old town of Villach with its main square (Hauptplatz) surrounded by fine 16th century houses. Entering the Julian Alps we reach the natural wonder of Lake Bled with its imposing castle and tranquil waters, surrounded by impressive peaks. Your afternoon is at leisure to take a walk around the lake or visit the castle. Before dinner at your hotel, we have arranged a boat trip on a traditional 'Plenta' to visit the picturesque church on the island. Your hotel for the next two nights is centrally located and close to the lakeside.

Lake Bled in Slovenia
This morning we visit Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana, which means 'beloved' in Slovene. Retaining the charm and warmth of a small town it is literally filled to capacity with Baroque churches, palaces, museums and quaint bridges traversing the canals and rivers. Pedestrian areas in the historic Old Town are complete with cafe tables and street entertainers. In the afternoon we drive through the dramatic Bohinj Valley, which stretches through the Triglav National Park, to visit a classic destination, the beautiful Lake Bohinj.

Slovenia - Opatija in Croatia
Today we visit the Postojna Caves, where we board a small train for a guided tour of the 20 kilometre labyrinth of passages, galleries and chambers decorated with fabulous stalactites and stalagmites. We also enjoy a visit to Predjama Castle. One of the most picturesque buildings in the whole of Slovenia, this unconquered fortification hangs dramatically in the middle of a 123 metre cliff. Later we cross the border to Croatia and arrive in the harbour town of Opatja, our home for the next three nights. Our elegant hotel is situated in the centre of Opatja, only a few steps from the sea.

Opatija in Croatia
Opatja is located on the edge of the Istrian peninsula which juts out into the Adriatic Sea. The Romans settled the area heavily and the coast is littered with beautifully preserved, picturesque small towns and ports. A local guide will join us as we spend a very leisurely day exploring the colourful coastline, and visit the old towns of Pula and Rovinj.

We arrive into Venice late morning and board a boat to take us to St Marc's Square where we join a local guide for a walking tour. The rest of the afternoon is free. We then return to the mainland where we stay the next two nights in the stylish, superior 4 Star Laguna Palace, an ultra modern hotel which even has it's own marina!

Venice
This morning we revisit Venice, arguably the most romantic city in the world. You can Meander through the myriad of narrow, water lined streets and alleys spanned by humped back bridges. Upon arrival at St Marc's Square your day is entirely free. To enable you to get the most out of your day we have included a 24 hour multi purpose water-bus and transport ticket enabling you to come and go as you please. For those that are interested you can use this pass and join your Tour Manager who will take you across the lagoon to visit the charming islands of Murano, which is famous for hand blown glass, and Burano with its brightly painted houses and lace making schools.

Venice - Innsbruck
Driving north into the Dolomites we enjoy an early lunch stop in Bolzano. This town has a distinctive Tyrolean character, and shopping is a pleasure in the elegantly arcaded main street. After crossing the dramatic Brenner Pass we visit the Swarovski 'Kristallwelten' (Crystal World), a weird and wonderful crystal experience, before reaching the Winter Olympic city of Innsbruck. After a brief orientation tour you will have free time to take in the old town, the Hofburg Imperial Palace and of course the renowned Golden Roof. Your hotel for the next two nights is located in the very heart of the old town.

A wonderful day is planned. You can either spend it at leisure amongst the medieval streets and shops of Innsbruck, or join us on a day trip (included) into the mountains of the Stubai Valley. This is the real Tyrol. Picturesque towns and villages litter the length of the valley. In summer this long, striking valley is home to green meadows, timber houses and wooded walking paths. Reaching the village of Mutterberg, at the  very end of the valley, we enjoy a stop for you to truly savour the Tyrolean surroundings. Maybe you would like to go for a walk along one of the numerous hiking paths, stroll through the village or visit the dramatic Grawa Waterfalls. Alternatively catch the Stubaier Gletscherbahen (Glacier Cable Car - not included), which takes you well above the snow line to the Eisgrat Panoramic cafe (2,900m) where you can enjoy lunch and have time to play in the snow! The views across the Alps are stupendous.

Innsbruck - Bad Kohlgrub, Oberammergau Area
Crossing over the Fern Pass into Bavaria we reach the village of Hohenschwangau and visit Neuschwanstein, the Fairytale Castle of 'mad' King Ludwig. A horse and buggy will take you up the wooded road to enjoy a guided tour through the state rooms, king's apartments, halls and throne room; all reminiscent of a Wagner operatic saga. Lunchtime will be spent in nearby Fussen, a beautifully preserved medieval town complete with hilltop fortress. Later we continue to the town of Bad Kohlgrub, near Oberammergau, where we will stay two nights.

Late morning we visit Oberammergau with its ornately painted houses and museum (entrance included). After lunch we settle into our premium seats, directly in front of the giant stage, where up to 2,000 locals re-enact the Passion of Christ. The play will be performed throughout the afternoon and evening with a long break allowed for dinner.

Brisbane passengers will have a free day in Bangkok then transfer to Bangkok Airport, departing at 11.59pm on TG 473, arriving in Brisbane at 12.05pm (04.06.10)
NOTE:

If the Brisbane passengers wish to have a late (6.00pm) checkout from their room at the hotel there will be an extra charge or $55.00 per person twin share or $90.00 for a single room.

Conditions for Macleay Valley Travel's Oberammergau Tour

Deposits and Payments - A non-refundable deposit of $600.00 per person is payable within 7 days of booking. This deposit is not refundable should you later cancel. A second deposit of $1200 required by 1st September 2009. The balance is payable in full 90 days prior to departure. 

Refunds and Cancellations
- Cancellations after final payment will result in a refund limited to whatever we can recoup from the airline.

Insurance -
Adequate travel insurance is essential. We can arrange this for you if desired.

Passports -
All travellers require a current passport. 
People travelling on a non-Australian passport will require a re-entry visa to Australia.

Basic Tour Price and Taxes -
  Air taxes and fuel levies are included in the basic tour price, therefore, as air taxes and fuel surcharges change regularly the exact amount will be advised at time of final payment. Total tour cost may therefore change by a small amount.

Not  Included in the Cost -
All items of a personal nature such as telephone calls, drinks, excess baggage, tips, meals, (except those specified in the itinerary) and also travel insurance'

Health and Fitness

Macleay Valley Travel recommends that the passenger is reasonably healthy and/or fit to participate in this tour.  Persons with a disability requiring special assistance must be accompanied by a companion. Macleay Valley Travel and their representatives cannot provide this service.  Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to accept/decline or terminate a passenger's participation in the tour under certain circumstances.

Booking through other Agents -
As we keep the cost of out tours as low as possible, there is insufficient margin for us to be able to pay commission to other travel agents. Because of this, if you want to book through another travel agent such booking can only be accepted on the basis of the Agent's commission being added to the price charged.
Macleay Valley Travel is a fully licensed travel agent and as such any monies paid to us are fully insured by the Travel Compensation Fund.
Similarly, because of the low margins and the hefty fees charged by credit card companies we can only accept credit card payment for the deposit. If you must pay the balance by credit card this can only be accepted if you add 2% to the final payment to help defray the substantial  fees that the credit card companies charge us.

Limitation of Liability -
As Macleay Valley Travel acts only as agent for the Airlines, Hotels, Coach Companies etc., providing accommodation, transportation and other services, Macleay Valley Travel shall not be liable or responsible for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property including baggage arising out of or connection with any transportation, accommodation or other services, or resulting directly or indirectly from acts of God, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Government or other authorities, de jure or defacto wars, whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics, quarantines, medical or customs regulations, delays or cancellations caused by changes in schedules or itinerary, or over bookings or defaults or for any causes beyond Macleay Valley Travel's control or any loss or damage resulting from improper or insufficient passports, visas or other documents and neither Macleay Valley Travel, and its servants or employees shall be or become liable or responsible for any additional expenses or liability sustained or incurred by the tour member as a result of the foregoing causes.
Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to modify the itinerary or the accommodation if circumstances make this necessary, provided that the amended itinerary is of equal value or greater value than that of the original program.
