Depart Sydney at 9.25am on CA 176, arriving in Shanghai at 6.20pm.

Today you will be transferred to the airport for early flight to Xian known as one of the seven ancient capitals of China. Upon your arrival, visit the Big Wild Goose pagoda and City Wall built in Ming Dynasty. Tonight enjoy a beautiful Tang Dynasty Show and Dinner.

A full day excursion to the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang guarded by the famous Terracotta Army, 7000 life size clay statues each individually crafted, complete with chariots and horses. Later in the afternoon, you will fly to Xining, the capital city of Qinghai Province.  Upon arrival you will be transferred to the local best four star hotel. This city is mainly inhabited with Tibetan but also a home of Uygur, Kazak and Hui minorities.

Xining - Lhasa
In the morning drive to Kumbum monastery of Gelukpa-sect, which was built in 1560 in Huangzhong county and also one of the six grand monasteries in Tibet. Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Lamaistic Yellow Hat Sect was born here. As Kumbum-monastery has always been playing an important role to connect the Mongolian with the Lamaism, today many Mongolian come to this place for worship. In the afternoon drive back to Xining. After dinner transfer to railway station, board your overnight soft-sleeper train to Lhasa and start the exciting adventurous journey to the holey Tibet.

Whole day train ride takes you going through the breathtaking sceneries on Qinghai & Tibet Highland. Arrive in Lhasa in the evening where you will be met at the railway station and transferred to the four star hotel.

Whole day visit Potala Palace, situated at the down town of Lhasa, it is the most magnificent building in the city. The construction was started by King Songtsan gambo of the Tubo Dynasty in the 640's. The Palace covers an area of 41 hectares and its 13 story main building is 115,703 metres high with a total area of 120,000 square metres, which consists of 1,000 rooms of living quarters of the Dalai Lamas, ceremonial halls, funerary pagoda halls and the servant's bedrooms.

Tour the sera and Drepung Monastery, which is the largest and richest monastery in Tibet and was founded in 1416 by a disciple of Tsong Khapa under the patronage of a noble family and later enlarged by the Fifth Dalai Lama. Drepung, which means rice heap in Tibetan, lies 8 kilometres west of Mt Gambo utse. The monastery covers a floor space of more than 200,000 square meters. At its peak, it had a registration of more than 10,000 monks. Many high and learned lamas had studied here. You will also visit a Tibetan family and share tea in their home.  Then you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Chengdu and overnight stay at your 4 star hotel.

Chengdu - Beijing
In the morning you will transferred to the airport and fly back to Beijing. Depart Chengdu at 12.00pm on  CA1406, arriving in Beijing at 2.30pm.  Depart Beijing at 4.00pm on CA 173, arriving in Sydney at 5.50am (21.05.09).

Conditions for Macleay Valley Travel's China Adventure Tour - Visit Tibet by Train

Deposits and Payments - A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 per person is payable within 7 days of booking. This deposit is not refundable should you later cancel. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to departure. 

Refunds and Cancellations - Cancellations after final payment will result in a refund limited to whatever we can recoup from the airline.

Insurance - Adequate travel insurance is essential. We can arrange this for you if desired.

Passports - All travellers require a current passport with at least 6 months left on it at the end of the tour. Non-Australian passport holders require a re-entry visa for Australia.
Visas are required for Australian passport holders to China. Visa fee for China is $30.00 and we charge $20.00 for processing.

Not  Included in the Cost - All items of a personal nature such as telephone calls, drinks, excess baggage, tips, meals, (except those specified in the itinerary), etc.
Also travel insurance and departure taxes. Australian airport tax must now be paid with your ticket, and comes to $480 at present.

Health and Fitness - Macleay Valley Travel recommends that the passenger is reasonably healthy and/or fit to participate in this tour. Persons with a disability requiring special assistance must be accompanied by a companion. Macleay Valley Travel and their representatives cannot provide this service. Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to accept/decline or terminate a passenger's participation in the tour under certain circumstances.

Booking through other Agents - As we keep the cost of out tours as low as possible, there is insufficient margin for us to be able to pay commission to other travel agents, so some bookings can only be accepted if the client pays the other agent's commission. 
Macleay Valley Travel is a fully licensed travel agent and as such any monies paid to us are fully insured by the Travel Compensation Fund. We are happy for any prospective traveller with us to check us out with your local Consumer Affairs (fair trading) department.
Similarly, credit card payments can only be accepted if 2% is added to the price to help defray the heavy merchant fees charged to us by the credit card companies.

Limitation of Liability - As Macleay Valley Travel acts only as agent for the Airlines, Hotels, Coach Companies etc., providing accommodation, transportation and other services, Macleay Valley Travel shall not be liable or responsible for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property including baggage arising out of or connection with any transportation, accommodation or other services, or resulting directly or indirectly from acts of God, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Government or other authorities, de jure or defacto wars, whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics, quarantines, medical or customs regulations, delays or cancellations caused by changes in schedules or itinerary, or over bookings or defaults or for any causes beyond Macleay Valley Travel's control or any loss or damage resulting from improper or insufficient passports, visas or other documents and neither Macleay Valley Travel, and its servants or employees shall be or become liable or responsible for any additional expenses or liability sustained or incurred by the tour member as a result of the foregoing causes.
Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to modify the itinerary or the accommodation if circumstances make this necessary, provided that the amended itinerary is of equal value or greater value than that of the original program.
