  • A 10 day coach tour into North Thailand and the Golden Triangle and south to the River Kwai.

  • Three nights in Bangkok, one of the most exciting cities in the world, with fabulous shopping, food and entertainment. 
  • One night at the Jungle Rafts on the River Kwai, plus a tour to see the famous Tiger Temple, where monks handle and care for these wild animals. 
  • Full breakfast daily, with many other meals.  
  • Entrance fees to many attractions.
  • All transport and transfers.  
  • Full time service of a professional Thai tour guide and if there are 12 or more tour participants there will be an Australian tour leader.
If you do not have a travel partner, but wish to travel at twin share rates, we will try and match you up with someone else in a similar situation. If you require a single room, there will be an additional charge of $485.

There is an optional 3 day extension to Angkor Wat for $925 per person twin share or $1,030 for a single room.

Australia - Bangkok
Depart Sydney at 10.00am on TG 476, arriving in Bangkok at 4.25pm.
Depart Brisbane at 2.00pm on TG 474, arriving in Bangkok at 8.20pm.
Depart Melbourne at 1.55pm on TG 466, arriving in Bangkok at 8.25pm.
All flights will be met at Bangkok Airport and transferred to the Manhattan Hotel, centrally situated in the Sukhumvit shopping and entertainment area and within easy walking distance to a Sky Rail Station and an underground station.

Bangkok
Morning tour to see Bangkok's beautiful flower market, followed by a boat tour of Bangkok's Klongs (canals) and the busy Chao Phrya River. See the Royal Barges and the spectacular Temple of Dawn. This is followed by a visit to a jewellery manufacturer.
In the evening, there is a tour to a Thai banquet with a magnificent presentation of classical Thai dancing.

Bangkok
A morning tour to one of the seven wonders of the world, Bangkok's magnificent Grand Palace, Coronation Hall, Emerald Buddha and the replica of Angkor Wat. This is followed by a visit to the temple of the huge Reclining Buddha, with his massive mother of pearl feet.

Bangkok - Ayuttaya - Phitsanalook
We travel to Ayuttaya, Thailand's former capital that was sacked by the Burmese in the 18th century. Here we visit Ayuttaya's World Heritage Historical Park with its extensive ruins. Then on to Lopburi for lunch, followed by a visit to the Monkey Temple where hundreds of monkeys run wild over the temple and the surrounding city. This is followed by a visit to an interesting museum situated in a former palace. We then travel to Phitsanalook for an overnight stay.

Phitsanalook - Sukothai - Lampang
First we visit Phitsanalook's local market to enjoy its sights, sounds and smells. Then to Sukothai, the ancient capital with its UNESCO sponsored historical park of ancient ruins dating back to the 14th century. Next we visit some ancient pottery kilns, which have been left in the same condition as they were when discovered and excavated by archaeologists. Then we have lunch at a rustic restaurant beside the River Si Sachinali. We then visit a modern temple known as "The Soldiers Temple" which is so breathtakingly beautiful that many regard it as being the most beautiful temple in the world. We then drive to Lampang for an overnight stay.

Lampang - Chiang Rai
First we inspect Lampang's unique Burmese temple. Then we drive north to see the Pho Thai Caves. Next we drive to Phayao to see Thailand's largest lake and have lunch at a lakeside restaurant. We then drive though to Chiang Rai, staying at a beautiful garden hotel. Tonight there will be an optional 2 hour Thai massage at a reputable establishment in Chiang Rai city.  Price: $35.00 including transport

Chiang Rai - Mekong
Today we have a coach tour of the beautiful Golden Triangle area. Our first stop is the Thailand/Laos border crossing at the mighty Mekong River. Then we travel to the Thailand/Burma border and inspect the Opium Museum, here we have lunch at a nice restaurant on the banks of the Mekong. Travel back to Chiang Rai.

Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai
Today we have a 4 hour boat trip on the Kok River from Chiang Rai to Thaton. During the trip we stop to see some interesting hot springs, and another stop to inspect a hill tribe village. We have lunch at Thaton and then rejoin our coach to drive to Chiang Mai for 3 nights, staying in a hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai, the city that everybody loves.

Chiang Mai
In the morning we visit Chiang Mai's famous handicraft factories, seeing such things as the manufacture of jewellery, Thai silk, paper umbrellas etc. Lunch is at a beautiful teakwood restaurant. The afternoon is free to explore Chiang Mai.

This morning we drive out to the rural areas to visit the beautiful Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens. This is followed by a visit to an orchid nursery where we have lunch. After this we visit Chiang Mai's famous mountain top temple with spectacular views back over Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai - Nakon Sawan
We now head away from the normal tourist route, heading back towards Bangkok on the western road. We stop at the Government Elephant Centre and see a display of elephants at work. We drive to Tak and have lunch at this interesting small town.  Then we drive to Nakon Sawan for the night.

Nakon Sawan - Bangkok
We head further south to inspect the Thai Summer Palace at Bang Pa Inn. Then we drive back to Bangkok, staying at the Manhattan Hotel.

Bangkok - River Kwai
Morning departure to the River Kwai. First of all we visit the beautifully kept Allied War Cemetery at Kanchanaburi. Then onto the infamous bridge itself. We then travel out to near the Burmese border and visit the famous Tiger Temple, where you can get a photograph of yourself patting these magnificent animals. We then travel by long tailed boat along the River Kwai for overnight accommodation at the Jungle Rafts Hotel floating on the River Kwai. This accommodation is quite unique and beautiful and most people consider it to be one of the highlights of the tour. However it is rather basic without electricity. Tonight there is an included dinner and a display of traditional mon dancing.

River Kwai - Bangkok - Sydney & Brisbane
This morning we inspect the Jeath War Museum. Afterwards we head back to Bangkok where we have a farewell lunch together in a nice restaurant. After lunch we transfer to the Manhattan Hotel where we have day use of a hotel room to freshen up & relax before our flight home.
Sydney passengers depart the hotel at 4.30pm for Bangkok Airport, with the flight departing at 7.15pm on TG 475, arriving in Sydney at 7.20am the next morning (01.08.12).
Melbourne and Brisbane passengers will depart the hotel at 8.00pm for Bangkok airport. Brisbane passengers will depart Bangkok at 11.59pm on TG 473, arriving in Brisbane at 12.05pm the next day (01.08.12).

Transfer from the Manhattan Hotel to Bangkok airport, departing at 6.45pm on Bangkok Airlines flight PG 909, arriving in Siem Reap at 7.40pm. Upon arrival you are met and transferred to the 4 star Prince D'Angkor Hotel.

Early morning departure from the hotel for a hot air balloon ride over Angkor Wat (the balloon is tethered to the ground). Afterwards return to the hotel for breakfast. Then visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphon, Phimeanakas, Elephants & Leper King terraces. Lunch is at the hotel.
In the afternoon visit the famous Angkor Wat temples. Angkor Wat is a temple complex built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. Angkor Wat is the most significant and best preserved temple in the area. It is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation, first Hindu and then Buddhist.
Tonight there is a buffet dinner in a city restaurant with a traditional dance show.

Breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards visit Bantreay Srei (the charming temples) and Banteay Samre temples. Lunch will be at a restaurant in the city. In the afternoon visit Kravan village and primary school. See saa paper printing and a suger palm plantation. Then relax with a traditional Khmer foot massage for one hour in the city.
Dinner will be at a restaurant in the city.

Breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards relax with a boat cruise at Tonle Sap Lake to view a floating village. Then come back to the city to see Artisans d'Angkor and stone carving. Lunch is at a restaurant in the city. The afternoon is free with late 6pm checkout from your hotel for Melbourne & Brisbane passengers.
Sydney passengers depart Siem Reap International Airport at 3.25pm on Bangkok Airways flight PG 914, arriving in Bangkok at 4.40pm. Sydney passengers then depart Bangkok at 7.15pm on TG 475, arriving in Sydney at 7.20am the next morning (04.08.12).
Melbourne and Brisbane passengers depart Siem Reap at 8.30pm on PG 910, arriving in Bangkok at 9.35pm.
Brisbane passengers then depart Bangkok at 11.59pm on TG 473, arriving in Brisbane at 11.50am the next morning (04.08.12).

Conditions for Macleay Valley Travel's Around Thailand Tour

Deposits and Payments - A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 per person is payable within 7 days of booking. If you are doing the optional Angkor Wat extension an additional deposit payment of $300 is required. These deposits are not refundable should you later cancel. The balance is payable in full 8 weeks prior to departure.

Refunds and Cancellations - Cancellations after final payment will result in a refund limited to whatever we can recoup from the airline.

Insurance - Adequate travel insurance is essential. We can arrange this for you if desired. Macleay Valley Travel offers Suresave Travel Insurance. Please note that we can only process your travel insurance when we have received full payment for the insurance and the signed Suresave Travel Insurance application form, located on the last page of the Suresave Travel Insurance information booklet. Until this time the travel insurance cannot be processed and will not be valid. Macleay Valley Travel will bare no responsibility for any consequences that may occur as a result of an incomplete insurance application.    

Passports - All travellers require a current passport with at least 6 months left on it at the end of the tour. Non-Australian passport holders require a re-entry visa for Australia. Visas are not required for Thailand if travelling on an Australian passport. If you are doing the Cambodian extension you will require a Cambodian visa. The Cambodian visa fee is $45.00 and we charge $30 for processing. Please note: Visa fees are subject to any increases imposed by the Cambodian Consulate. 

Basic Tour Price and Taxes - Air taxes and Fuel Levies are included in the basic tour price if the tour is paid in full on or before the due date on the final invoice. Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to charge for any increase in Air taxes and Fuel Levies if the tour is not paid in full by the due date.

Breakaway Fee - All fully inclusive prices are based on group travel and any deviation from the set  itinerary will incur a breakaway fee. The breakaway fee for most deviations including a post-tour extension on this tour is $55 per person. Please inquire with our office for prices on any pre-tour extensions. 

Not  Included in the Cost - Travel insurance, visas and all items of a personal nature such as telephone calls, drinks, excess baggage, tips, meals (except those specified in the itinerary), etc. are not included in the cost.
Similarly, credit card payments can only be accepted if 2% is added to the price to help defray the heavy merchant fees charged to us by the credit card companies.

Booking through other Agents - As we keep the cost of our tours as low as possible, there is insufficient margin for us to be able to pay commission to other travel agents, so some bookings can only be accepted if the client pays the other agent's commission. 
Macleay Valley Travel is a fully licensed travel agent and as such any monies paid to us are fully insured by the Travel Compensation Fund. We are happy for any prospective traveller with us to check us out with your local Consumer Affairs (fair trading) department.

Health and FitnessMacleay Valley Travel recommends that the passenger is reasonably healthy and/or fit to participate in this tour.  Persons with a disability requiring special assistance must be accompanied by a companion. Macleay Valley Travel and their representatives cannot provide this service.  Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to accept/decline or terminate a passenger's participation in the tour under certain circumstances.

Limitation of Liability - As Macleay Valley Travel acts only as agent for the Airlines, Hotels, Coach Companies etc., providing accommodation, transportation and other services, Macleay Valley Travel shall not be liable or responsible for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property including baggage arising out of or connection with any transportation, accommodation or other services, or resulting directly or indirectly from acts of God, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Government or other authorities, de jure or defacto wars, whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, epidemics, quarantines, medical or customs regulations, delays or cancellations caused by changes in schedules or itinerary, or over bookings or defaults or for any causes beyond Macleay Valley Travel's control or any loss or damage resulting from improper or insufficient passports, visas or other documents and neither Macleay Valley Travel, and its servants or employees shall be or become liable or responsible for any additional expenses or liability sustained or incurred by the tour member as a result of the foregoing causes.
Macleay Valley Travel reserves the right to modify the itinerary or the accommodation if circumstances make this necessary, provided that the amended itinerary is of equal value or greater value than that of the original program.
